Tholos in Rhodes: great architecture

Rhodes , as every holiday destination, is a mixture of different places. There are resorts pumping with life till the sunrise, where parties never end. True lands of wonders for young people seeking place to wind down after. There are also places that seem to reverberate the tones of years that long ago faded in the darkness of the past. Those cosy little towns, with winding streets, typically Greek architecture and people that are so warm-hearted and open, always eager to help or tell one of those stories that describe nearly each detail of the island. Myths are deeply rooted in the culture of the island, and even more in local peoples’ minds.
Tholos, located in the north west part of the island is a resort that managed to successfully maintain its character.
It is a unique combination of a colorful traditional village and a not busy resort. A sprinkling of shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants can be found around the hotels and apartments. Its excellent beach can be breezy – an ideal place for windsurfers. The traditional way of life is still widely practiced in the village itself, and you should expect a very warm welcome from the friendly people living there.
You should not miss to visit the picturesque church of Agios Spiridonas, with it’s lovely white bell tower. The old centre of Tholos is built in traditional Rhodian style. With tall shuttered buildings and narrow streets, Tholos (Theologos) village in Rhodes is a delight to wander through.
Another place that may interest many tourists is Afandou: a village located along the longest beach in Rhodes, with the clearest waters of the Aegean Sea and also ones that are the most peaceful. There are plenty of forms of accommodation to choose from: so each and every tourist will find something for himself.
