Villas in Rhodes

Holidays a king would not concern not appropriate for him. To rent a villa, near an avenue that is all day long crowded with tourists. All day long in the centre of events.

Renting a villa means that you are also free of the rules and regulations which can sometimes be such a drag when you’re on holiday.  You can enjoy all the pleasures of living in the sun without any of the responsibilities … you can do exactly what you want (well, within reason!), how you want, when you want without the restrictions of dining times, no fellow holidaymakers to consider; no early morning wake-up calls from the next room or the corridor outside.

You can wash your clothes and beach towels instead of having to lug back cases full of dirty laundry!  And although you have all the peace and quiet you could ask for, booking in means that you do always have someone to talk to in the unlikely event that there should be a problem, a query or something you need some help with.

And you can always go for a stroll along that beautiful avenue a king would not consider not worth to stroll along. Admire spectacular views and feel nearly as at home, as a villa that you rent replaces your home in that particular place in the world.

On the lookout for Rhodes

Let’s continue with exploring connections of the name of the gorgeous island with other things in the world, that could hardly ever with Rhodes located in Mediterranean.

One of such things is Rhodes Memorial onDevil’s Peak in Cape Town, South Africa, is a memorial to English-born South African politician Cecil John Rhodes ( yes, it is the one to join with the scholarship)(1853-1902) designed by Sir Herbert Baker. The memorial is situated at Rhodes’s favourite spot on the lower slopes of Devil’s Peak. Rhodes’s own wooden bench is still situated below the memorial. The magnificent view facing northeast can be imagined as the start of the Cape to Cairo road, Rhodes’s imperial dream of a British colonial Africa which had Rhodes as one of its greatest champions.

There are also news from Australia where a chain of multiplex cinemas was created in recent years. It bears the name : Rhodes cinemas, yet one can hardly find movies about Rhodes in this cinema repertoire. It is a branch of a relaly huge cinema chain called Reading Cinemas, established in 1900< the company Reading Entertainment Inc exists since 1830>. The aim of the company is ‘to provide moviegoers with first-class cinematic experience, truly passionate movie enthusiasts may find their place in a Reading Golden Lounge venue that is equipped with a lounge bar, and according to freshest news , also a delicious light-meal menu. And of course: better place to watch movies.

Electra Palace Hotel: electrifying perfectness

Pine tree resort known as Pefki< Pefkos> may be recommended as a perfect place to spent holidays away from noise and hustle and bustle of city life. There are no enormous chain hotels or sets of apartments. Instead the place boasts a huge number of rooms to hire, usually located in homes of local people so that seems to be an ideal way to get to know the Greek spirit of the island. Rooms usually have separate entrance what ensures total privacy and freedom when it comes down to late coming back after night parties. Maybe not in Pefki as this a rarity there, but somewhere close to the place.

Another form of accommodation is provided by a chain of hotels known as The Electra Palace, very popular in Rhodes.

The Electra Palace Hotel, situated on the western coast of Rhodes, consists of two buildings, twenty meters away from the sea front and very near the village of Trianta. Constructed on 1974 and renovated to a high standard in 2006, The Electra Palace Hotel in Rhodes is decorated in Art Deco style and it portrays loyally the sophistication of the Italian flair of the island. Restaurants (there are three of them ) offer a true mixture of tastes that will satisfy even the most fussy eaters. Apart from eating issues this hotel is also fantastic because it offers beutiful views from each and every room as  all rooms have private balconies overlooking the Aegean, the pool or its magnificent gardens. In the hotel there is a reading room, a club for teenagers, internet cafe, a library. Seems there is no such thing that could not be found in this marvellous hotel.

Rhodes devoid of any sense: scholarships and Neighbours

Rhodes scholarships are yearly awarded for great and brilliant students that are likely to develop their skills in the future: and this scholarship is to help themrealise their dreams, as it enables them to study in Oxford: probably the most renown university in the world and also undeniably one of the best.

The Rhodes Scholarship named after Cecil Rhodes  is an international award for study at the University of Oxford was the first large-scale programme of international scholarships. Rhodes Scholars may study any full-time postgraduate course offered by the University—whether a taught Master’s programme, a research degree, or a second undergraduate degree (senior status).

In the first instance, the scholarship is awarded for two years. However, it may also be held for one year or three years. Applications for a third year are considered during the course of the second year.

Yet what does it have in common with cheap holidays in Rhodes?? ;P Probably only a similar name. Cheap holidays in Rhodes are a dream of many European people as Rhodes is just a perfect place to find peace, sun and wind down. Yet cheap may not necessarily describe holidays in Rhodes: as the island is yearly onslaughted by masses of tourists prices are overwhelmingly high.

And to end up in a way totally devoid of any sense let’s say something about Adam Rhodes, who is joined with the gorgeous island by his surname :P Who is Adam Rhodes? Adam Rhodes is a fictional character in an australian soap opera Neighbours :P

Haraki : where to go to enrich your soul?

Haraki is situated in the southern part of the island, stretched along the eastern coast, it is mainly visited by families with small kids. As the beach there is pebbly, wide, safe and the waters shallow and peaceful.

Haraki is maybe unique beacause there are no big, chain hotels. No sets of apartments or busy enormous hotels. This place is perfect for peace-lovers.And there is a possibility to spend there holidays with a difference: due to its calmness and quietness. Special holiday camps are organised there for people sharing different hobbies. There is a possibility to go for a drawing camp : two, three weeks ( 22 days ) or even a month totally devoted to acquiring knowledge of using pencils and understanding perspective. That is something for those who really want to learn these things. Yet drawing is not the only hobby that became a main theme of summer camps.

Yoga, recently gaining popularity is really kind of an activity that to master demands really high physical fitness and strength. Also that kind of inner body intelligence that enables people to practice it correctly. These abilities need time to master, and devoting few weeks for it undeniably brings fruits and staggering results as well: regardless of actual final effect participants of the camp always notice huge progress in their abilities.

Such ideas, to utilise small villages in beautiful surroundings for organising camps that are aimed at spiritual enriching are becoming more and more popular, especially nowadays, when it is just fashionable to have a demanding hobby.

Cyprus, Rhodes, Crete… Whatever

Cyprus, Rhodes, Crete: thoughts about those islands all make us float away in our dreams. Especially in the very middle of European winter, when snow covers each and every corner of our surroundings, and chilling frost bites ears and noses. Then even a flash of thought about warm waters of Aegeyan Sea takes us speeding to the nearest airport and book a ticket for the nearest flight. Rhodes, Crete, Cyprus… Well. Whatever?

Having already described colours of Rhodes, sights to see. All possible , most important resorts that may be interesting for some reasons. Yet how does the island smell?? Let me try to describe the scents of Rhodes. I know, that reading about them cannot equal experiencing them but…

Sea. Fresh, blue, wavy, sometimes rough and violent. Always warm, always inviting to take a bath. Brings relief during scorching heat as it always scents just perfect: like a reddish sunset, misty dawn, cold day or a first kiss. This particular thing about seas, regardless of which one will never stop bothering me.

Secondly there are markets in Rhodes: those ones where fresh vegetables and fish are sold. And these are not the scents of cabbage, tomatoes, olives or fish that left marks in memory. That is more for the characteristic scent of people’s smiles, helping hands and nice, friendly little chats between sellers and clients. Local people and tourists. On a  market there is always something to talk about, to exchange vies, opinions, even though you are there only for a few days. Music, poetry, weather: seems just strange that you may hear here opinions about books of Dan Rhodes as well as about the new road that is to be built in the vicinity of the town. Dan Rhodes, just think of it :)

Rhodes a bill paradise :)

Athens, the capital of Greece , is a city located in the southern part of the country, just where Peloponnese peninsula begins. Athens is known to be the city particularily beloved by the goddes Athene: there is a myth telling the whole story, how Athene won a fight with Poseidon about who was to rule the city. Nowadays Athens is  rather a place where the great adventure with Greece begins. From that place whole Greece is easily reachable.

An island probably the most reknown in the Dodekanese Archipelago is without a shadow of a doubt Rhodes. Connections between the mainland and the isles are by a ferry or by a plane. And there it is this fascinating island, where bills are exceptionally low. That is mostly due to the fact that Rhodes year by year benefits from crowds of tourists that onslaught it, and leave stunning amounts of money in the pockets of Rhodes inhabitants. As the income is always high, people are happy with low taxes, what influences low bills. Rhodes seems to be a promised land for those that are capable of running their own business. There is a truly neverending list of possible own businesses to run: restaurants, hotels, villas for rent, clubs, sport centres. And because of those stunningly low taxes income never fails to please eager inventive entreprenuers.

Wiki and that is clear!

Everybody planning to go to Rhodes should, first of all do a bit of reading about the palce. OF course the first website that appears on top of the list after searching in a browser is wiki < wikipedia>. What does it inform us about? Where the island of Rhodes is situated, what is the climate there like. What and where is worth to be seen, as well as a bit about the history of the island. Having read that a possible visitor may fight away the thought of going to Rhodes: maybe it is not just the right place for his holidays. Fortunaltely he knew this before he booked a ticket to Rhodes! Or he may just feel the thrill of excitement as Rhodes, after having a brief read , occured to be a perfect destination for his holidays.

Here comes the time for further insight into the topic. A possible visitor seeks for as many travel guides as he can find. Reads nearly everything, plans future sightseeing routes. Rhodes is no longer an island somewhere in the Mediterranean. It feels just like he was born there. Mentally he left no stone unturned while reading all the information about the holiday destination. Collosus of Rhodes is no longer a mysterious one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Rough and tangled history of the place begins to interest the visitor, who just starts to see the mysterious connections between the geographical location of the island and its complicated history, changing roulers of the island as well as many bloodthirsty wars that stormed over the peaceful waters of the Aegeayn Sea. At this particular moment the visitor is no loner somebody from out there that wants to lie on the beach and not pay attention to any issue apart form whether the amount of the suntan oil is sufficinet. At this specific moment he becomes a tourist that realises how important is the place he is going to visit. Important because of geography, politics, history. Such visitors are, unfortunaltey, becoming a true rarity nowadays. People just crave for sun, and whether it will be  a beach in Cypprus, Crete, Mallorca or Sicilly does not bother them much. Those fantastic places seem to be melting together: they all offer an array of villas for rent and a true abundance of night clubs to go. Yet only if someone does put a little effort into undercovering the secrets of the place he is going to spend vacation in will he truly be content with his holidays.

Tholos in Rhodes: great architecture

Rhodes , as every holiday destination, is a mixture of different places. There are resorts pumping with life till the sunrise, where parties never end. True lands of wonders for young people seeking place to wind down after. There are also places that seem to reverberate the tones of years that long ago faded in the darkness of the past. Those cosy little towns, with winding streets, typically Greek architecture and people that are so warm-hearted and open, always eager to help or tell one of those stories that describe nearly each detail of the island. Myths are deeply rooted in the culture of the island, and even more in local peoples’ minds.
Tholos, located in the north west part of the island is a resort that managed to successfully maintain its character.
It is a unique combination of a colorful traditional village and a not busy resort. A sprinkling of shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants can be found around the hotels and apartments. Its excellent beach can be breezy – an ideal place for windsurfers. The traditional way of life is still widely practiced in the village itself, and you should expect a very warm welcome from the friendly people living there.
You should not miss to visit the picturesque church of Agios Spiridonas, with it’s lovely white bell tower. The old centre of Tholos is built in traditional Rhodian style. With tall shuttered buildings and narrow streets, Tholos (Theologos) village in Rhodes is a delight to wander through.
Another place that may interest many tourists is Afandou: a village located along the longest beach in Rhodes, with the clearest waters of the Aegean Sea and also ones that are the most peaceful. There are plenty of forms of accommodation to choose from: so each and every tourist will find something for himself.

Rhodes old town

The old town of Rhodes undeniably is able to fire one’s imagination. The city does remember medieval times. Heavy, thick, stone walls that cast shadows on strolling paths of the old town remind visitors of the past of the town. Those walls are a perfect example of the techniques of fortification that were most popular in the 14th and 15 th century. The city boasts those walls owing to the order of St John, that were designed and built to protect the town from all kinds of dangers, coming from sea or land.

Those meadiaeval walls have eleven gates leading into the old town. To their belong those ones: Eleftrias, Amboise, Panagia, Diagoras, Athanasiou and Pili Ekaterinis one.

Apart from the walls there is a Palace of the Great Masters located at the end of the Street of Great masters. Once imagination is fired many different pictures may come to mind: how did this place look in the past centuries, what did the people living there look like and what were their main occupations. In the castle there are exhibitions of fine pieces of furniture, polychrome marbles, statues carpets, oriental vases. There are 158 rooms in the cfastle yet nly 24 of them are open for the public. These are: the waiting room, the reception hall, the room of the Medousa mousaic. The place is most popular with families, probably due to its educational properties.
